Directions for Use
- Shake well before use.
- Apply in two lines, on both sides of the spinal column from the poll of the head to the tail root.
- Apply onto clean, dry skin. Do not apply to wet animals. If rain occurs within 2 hours of application, product effectiveness may be reduced.
- Use a squeeze bottle with dosemeter. Squeeze the required volume into the dosemeter before application.
- Treat animals at regular intervals according to tick challenge and parasite burden.
Special Management Guidelines
- Pyrethroid Resistance Management: Alphatic Double Action contains Fipronil, which acts on GABA receptors, a completely different mechanism from pyrethroids (sodium channel blockers) and amitraz (octopamine receptor agonists). This makes it effective where pyrethroid resistance has developed in tick populations.
- Young Stock: Not recommended for calves under 3 months of age. Calves under 6 months must be treated strictly according to body mass.
- Lactating Cattle: Do not use on lactating animals where milk is intended for human consumption. The avermectin component is excreted in milk.
- Rain-Fastness: Do not apply to wet animals. If rainfall occurs within 2 hours of application, efficacy may be reduced and re-treatment may be necessary.
- Meat Withdrawal: The 105-day meat withdrawal period is significantly longer than other pour-on products. Ensure all treated animals are clearly identified and records maintained to prevent premature slaughter.
- Internal Parasite Monitoring: While Alphatic Double Action provides broad-spectrum roundworm control, regular faecal egg counts are recommended to monitor parasite burden and guide treatment intervals.
Tick-Borne Disease Immunity
Correct, regular treatment may reduce natural exposure to ticks and may affect tick-borne disease immunity, especially in young animals. Seek veterinary advice where tick-borne diseases are prevalent. Where possible, vaccinate against tick-borne diseases.
